The Faculty of Medicine, University of Szeged is one of the most outstanding medical schools in Hungary teaching health sciences in three languages. The Faculty has excellent scientific laboratories performing high standard researches supported by national and international grants. Students have a wide range of opportunities to join scientific research activities during the time of their studies. Experience gained during university years help many students to become successful researchers all around the world. The history of our faculty dates back to the 19th century as it was established in 1872 as the Medical Faculty of Ferenc József University in Cluj-Napoca, belonging to Hungarian Kingdom that time. Since then the history of the university and the faculty has been harassed, seat and name have been changed several times. It gained high reputation in research, education and practice of medical sciences. We are all proud of Albert Szent-Györgyi, former professor and dean of the Faculty who was awarded Nobel Prize in 1937 for his research in Szeged. He is an idol both for lecturers and students, presenting the idea that world-wide results can be achieved in Hungary and Szeged. Paralelly with our Hungarian language training English language medical training started in 1985 and German language training in 1999. The Faculty has excellent scientific laboratories performing high standard researches supported by national and international grants.
Besides traditions, looking for new ways, modernisation is also our task as it is shown for example in Medical Graduate Schools operating since 1993 with fruitful PhD training and in specialist training. Furthermore, students have a wide range of opportunities to join scientific research activities during the time of their studies. Experience gained during university years help many students to become successful researchers all around the world. The Faculty is proud of its main mission, training well-educated doctors.
As a distinguished medical institution of the region the Faculty of Medicine, University of Szeged is able to provide such circumstances for its students which help them to become successful doctors. The friendly atmosphere in Szeged, where almost everything is in walking distance, also makes the city an excellent place to live and study. Moreover, Szeged has the highest number of sunshine hours in Hungary which can also be a further reason to become attached to the city.
